About awryLabs
awryLabs is the after-hours studio of
Robert Hoekstra, a one-person operation. By day he works across law,
data, and disaster; this is where that same restless attention gets pointed at making
small things. The mix changes from project to project, a strategy game, a research
library, a teaching tool, but the stance does not: solve a problem worth solving, finish
it, and keep the people who use it out of the data-collection machine.
No funding, no ad SDKs, no roadmap to monetize an audience. Extractive software offends
me more aesthetically than morally, and I would rather make one good object than ten that
mine you for attention. So the things here do not track you, do not nag you into a
subscription, and try to be a little strange on purpose. If a project finds an audience,
fine; if it teaches me something useful, better. Most of it started as a personal itch
and ended up worth letting other people use.
What I work on
